19/11/07 - Maintenance
We've performed a little overdue maintenance to the website, to include the old legacy story archive that was previously available prior to 2005.

- OLD NEWS -

25/11/05 - Story Archive update
The software for the story archive has been updated to the latest version, eliminating some of the previous problems we've had, and granting us many new features. We're working on bringing the stories across into the new archive, and this should be completed sometime soon.
11/7/05 - Major update
The new Short Stories Central Story Archive is now online, allowing for user logins, automatic story submissions and reviews of existing stories. Also, we've updated some of the graphics in the site to something a bit more modern.
Please feel free to start adding your works to the archive!
20/1/05 - Happy New Year!
A happy new year to all Short Stories Central visitors! To kick off the new year, we've included the latest story from Deryk, Hell's Henchman (that's the name of the story, not biological field notes! :) ) and we have more on the way.
We've made small changes throughout the site to tweak and enhance the functions of the site. Not least is the inclusion of a 'Resources' section of the website. Now you can access some tips on story writing. At the moment we've got one article, but more on the way and will be posted as they are written.
We'll conclude by saying 'thank you' for sticking with us as we've gone through so many changes and we hope you enjoy the existing and forthcoming site content.
21/9/04 - Forum Changes
Finally, a new skin for the forum has been developed, to integrate with the rest of the site aesthetically. The new skin, titled 'SSC', has been made default for all visitors and existing users to ensure that everyone experiences the full effect of the skin change. Users can still access all of their own skins if they wish, however.
On the subject of the forums, further cleaning action has been taken by removing inactive old users and old posts. Users who had previously posted were kept while the others were removed. This action means that the forums are now further streamlined and tidy and this action should not have to be repeated in the near future.
29/8/04 - Minor Changes
This is just a small site update, dealing with a few remaining issues from the redesign process. Links on both the left and right bars now animate when touched by the mouse pointer. A few tweaks were made to the site in general, with some formatting changes and updates to the story covers.
Unfortunately, our automatic story submitter has randomly failed, and we are working to resolve this issue. For the time being, please submit all stories to the forum.
On the subject of the forums, a major rehaul is planned. We are going to gut the forum completely, therefore old topics and members will be removed; all ranks will be removed. Submitted stories will be saved and transferred to the new forums, but ALL members will need to re-register. The new forums will be similar to the current ones, with some minor changes and tweaks, and a crackdown on anti-social behaviour by some regular site visitors. All members are reminded to abide by the forum rules or their account will be locked.
The forum update should take place in the next few days, if all goes well.
18/8/04 - New content
Today some new stories have been added to the story archive, and some of the existing ones have been completely rewritten.
Also, the 'Forums' link on the top bar has been modified to allow direct access to the forums. This has been done to make the site more convenient and integrate the forums more tightly into the overall site structure. As ever, you can feel free to let us know what you think of the changes and let us know what else should be done.
20/07/04 - Major Update
As you can see, we've made some major changes to the basic look and layout of the website. Some old sections are gone, some have been revamped, and some new ones make their debut.
Both Graham and Deryk felt that the site deserved a large overhaul and to update existing content and make our content more relevant. Now we have a much improved interface that directly links to parts of the forums directly, so everything on the site is more tightly bound together.
We got rid of the boring old 'Times New Roman' font, and replaced it with Verdana and Arial, which gives the site a better look, in our opinion. We hope you will agree.
Also new is the addition of story 'covers' for each of the stories. This was a last minute inclusion, but we felt it helped contribute to the new look of the website. Please email us with comments about these covers, or if you think they should be removed. Also we changed the colour of the story bars from red to a turquoise/green, which we felt was a more appropriate colour.
It is now easier to access our terms of use and privacy policy as a result of this redesign process, and the forums are now more tightly integrated into the site.
We think that these improvements are for the better, but if you disagree or would like something else changed or included, or would just like to comment, please feel free to email us!
16/07/04 - Stories Review
Today was a bit of a sad day, as we made the hard decision to pull off some of the stories on the site to review them. Some will re-emerge much improved, and others will not be included. Both of us felt that some stories were not living up to the high quality standards required of the site, and as a result, we have taken action. Hopefully this will be for the better.
15/02/04 - Some Changes
Some minor changes were made to the site, a few font changes here and there, and a little bit of maintenance. Also we have Contract: Termination by Andrew Allan, the first story we have featured by him. Hopefully he will continue to write more intriguing and engrossing stories.
Some action in the forums as well, with a lot of signups in the last few weeks, and things are beginning to hot up a little bit.
Some more stories are on the way too!

23/01/04 - Welcome, and a happy new year!!!
Welcome to Short Stories Central .co.uk! Yes, we've moved to a better domain and a better service. No more adverts and much faster loading times for all.
A small apology, we had some difficulties in setting up the site for the 10th, as previously planned. There have been a number of changes to the web site itself, most notably the blue background, which I hope you agree is much better than the previous dull white. Also we've performed some maintenance to the site in general and should now be free of those previous niggling mistakes.
The Stories page has been totally revamped, with a whole new look to it. It should also make navigation easier and you will also be able to read the first few lines of the story, email the author directly, and find out more information.
A new 'downloads' section has been added, with some fabulous new desktops that you may want to try.
We have new stories for you, including a new story from Graham, and also American Intervention, Eagle Eyes, Pi-Gammas 2, and The Monkey's Paw by Deryk. First site of the month for 2004 is www.thelittleweddingcar.com, essential for those of you in the UK needing a wedding car.
Enjoy the new changes!
